Cyrus gave no fucks last night, but he wasn’t wrong, this isn’t France. The Republican Party would skewer Fitz for divorcing his wife for some black woman. Love of his life or not. You can’t honestly believe that it wouldn’t be complicated.
Olivia sacrificed who she was, her integrity, for this man. You call it love, but I call it questionable. If he really loves her, then he’s not going to be happy with what she did. Olivia is not a fairy tale and she doesn’t wear the white hat, regardless of what Harrison says. I don’t understand how compromising your integrity for the man you love helps anyone in the end. Especially once he finds out. The shit is going to hit the fan in a big, big way.
I am honestly over the melodrama that is the POPUS relationship. Truthfully. There is no clear winner in this situation. Most of you are not here for Mellie, but I love her. Always have, always will. She’s manipulative to her very core, she hasn’t pretended to be out for anyone but herself since we’ve met her, and at least she doesn’t hide behind “feelings,” but sheer ambition. She doesn’t want to let go of her creation, and I don’t blame her. She put in all the work and then gets blindsided by her husband falling in love. Apparently, at some point Fitz had enough of her ambition for the cracks to begin to show, but he had to be fine with it (if not happy, then fine will do) long enough to have been successful from it and for her to be there too. So yeah, Mellie has the right to be pissed. She abso-fucking-lutely does. I’d be pissed too. Even if I didn’t love that man, I’d be pissed at the things I had to sacrifice for the things he wanted that I ultimately wanted too. Gave you kids, endured 20 years of what looks to have ranged mild to absolute disdain and then watch you try to ride off with some other chick? Nah man, I would set it off in this place.
I’m just waiting. Just waiting for someone to spin the theory that Edison was involved in the assassination attempt and payment. If you can ground it in facts and not in blind hatred of his character, then I’ll entertain the theory. Otherwise, please move on.
I have no defense for Fitz because I really don’t care about him. Tony Goldwyn plays him brilliantly, but I just can’t with him. I don’t know why (yes I do, that’s a lie, but that’s another post altogether.) Fitz is a puppet. Fitz is a fucked up guy. And Olivia is one fucked up woman. They may be made for one another.
Long and short is this: Fitz divorcing doesn’t give you a fairy tale ending, Mellie being Mellie is one the most compelling parts of this show, and I miss the Olivia that isn’t a pathetic shell of a human being.
